Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi; the diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another. Zoonotic diseases are infectious diseases of animals that can cause disease when transmitted to humans.

Infectious diseases Pharmacist focuses to provide pharmaceutical care to patients with infectious diseases through balanced training in patient care, teaching and clinical research in the area of infectious diseases pharmacotherapy skills.

They are prepared to participate as members of interdisciplinary teams who care for patients with infectious diseases, taking responsibility for their pharmaceutical care. They are also trained to provide such care. They serve health care organizations as the ultimate resource for information about anti-infectives and for decision-making affecting the care of these patients 

Infectious diseases Pharmacist gain experience in the management of common infectious diseases and uncommon in various patient populations; develop a solid understanding of microbiology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial therapy; strengthen his / her communication skills through presentations and interactions with other health professionals in a variety of formal and informal contexts; participate in infectious diseases and pharmacy related interdisciplinary committee; improve its / their teaching skills 

Clinical services of infectious diseases include monitoring drug therapy and consultation for pharmacy and medical staff with a focus on antiretroviral therapy for the infection. In addition, involved in the supervision of anti-microbial program as a member of the core to ensure optimal use of antimicrobial treatment within the institution. Antibiotics will track trends, and evaluate patterns of prescribing anti-microbial and will provide feedback to prescribers, as well as continuing education in the use of antimicrobials to the pharmacy, and medical health care providers and others.
